I had this discussion with a fellow translator about what is and is not translatable. He said that a certain Yousei Teikoku song (Shoseijo no uta) falls in the latter category. I disagree(d).
Deep, deep in me a flower
Dreams, dreams of the spring SunDeep, deep in me the blade of life
Grows, grows waiting for the morningExhausted at the tower it was guarded
Exhausted little flower it has fledLed away and astray, return to Mother
Gather the words and lies, return them to one
Or else it shall not end as you wishDeep, deep in wells up a prayer
Rotting, rotting away, my life is the priceRiver froze by piercing cold, seekers dance
Shiver pierced by freezing colr, reaper’s danceLed away and astray, accept what fate holds
Gather the words and lies, return them to none
Once freed a light never diesDeep, deep in me a flower
Dreams, dreams of the spring Sun
