Just this morning I got a promo tweet telling me about SSD cloud hosting for $5 a month. Not that I’d need a cloud host VPS to run a low-traffic WP blog, but I like occasionally having fun with lower-level stuff, and als— wait what? It costs less than my current shared plan?

Considering that the aforementioned tweet also included a promo code for $10 (eg two months), I couldn’t resist the temptation to at least give it a try. I’ll just play around with it until that free trial period runs out, then I’ll see if it’s actually worth the hassle to move.

Not to mention even the $5 plan is many times more than what stats show my site uses altogether, so I might as well just use a VPS to have fun with cloud-based code and play command-line Tetris over SSH. A few years back a friend and I tried a VPS for I don’t even know what reason, but setting up a server from scratch was more than what we could chew. Let’s see if I can do better this time.
