I’ve had a few encounters with the Iwate Kura Beer series before, and after the red and gold, now comes the last: black.

Iwate Kurokura

It’s almost black, with the really dark amber color only visible if held against light. Its head is light tan colored, and doesn’t leave behind any lacing worth mention.

The nose is sweet, with the porter-standard caramel and chocolate dominating.

The body’s medium to light, with a fizzy carbonation. There is the sweetness, followed by coffee and the caramel. There is a gentle, refreshing bitterness from the hops, and also a light fruity tone. Altogether it reminds me of a tiramisu cake (with the rum).

The aftertaste is ruled by the thicker end of the bitters. It was a nice porter to drink.
