Damn

My wireless network got messed up in the afternoon. I’m still working on it. The problem is that the two machines see each other (at least they do see the network and also the connections show no error), but neither file nor internet nor any sharing works. Funny, because i changed nothing, it just stopped. Until i can fix this, i won’t be available. Damn Windows.

Stravinsky

Before anyone ask, i don’t want to write about Stravinsky, i simply found it a bit annoying, that one of my contacts signed on with the name Igor Fjodorovič Stravinski (sic). No, the problem is not that he borrowed the name of that genius russian composer, the problem is, that this way i don’t have the slightest idea who he was. I mean, that contact, not Stravinsky. I indeed have a bit more contacts than i should have, simply because in “ancient times”, once or twice, i was invited into huge “convo” chats, which means there was a lot of people, and i added too many of them. Haven’t talked to the most ever since. Anyway, luckily Trillian allows me to rename my contacts, so as soon as i figure out who that Stravinski was, i’ll give him a name that i recognise.

Anyway, i haven’t worked on the blog today, even though i should’ve. I instead worked on a kinda more important project, that i should’ve finished for half a year now – and to be honest, now i really think i’m close to opening it.

Gosh. I just realised i still have loads to learn… For example, the whole history of ancient greek literature. Fun. I think i won’t sleep much this night…

Sort

I think i should sort my instant messenger contact list. I didn’t write MSN because i have contacts from other networks too. That’s the good in Trillian, i can have all my online identities in one. Also, that meta contact thing is really useful too…

I have my contacts in two groups: Anytime and Maybe. So there are people who are always good to talk with, never annoying, always understanding and such. They are my friends. There are only 10 of them.

The other group is those who are sometimes sane or entertaining, fun to talk with, but sometimes annoying, disturbing and not understanding at all. Or maybe we simply don’t have any common things to talk about. There is 80 of them.

Compared to others, i have pretty few contacts, and must say, of the Maybe group i have hardly talked to half of them only once… That’s why i say i should sort those i never speak to or always annoy me out…

New password

I just checked and found out that using this clever thing my password (that i thought to be secure) can be hacked. Funny, isn’t it? Though one’d need to know its hash to find it out, but that’s not hard for a pro hacker i think. Anyway, i found out that it’s not secure anymore so i changed it. I’m in the process of changing it everywhere i used this one. Don’t misunderstand me, i won’t change it everywhere to the same thing – i use a random string generator to make my passwords…

Now at all the important places i have the imaginably most secure passwords… or not. But now, i think i’ll go back and learn some japanese or read, maybe watch a movie. Wanna rest after a whole day of coding.

New Yahoo! mail

Today a friend of mine told me that it’s worth trying out the new online mailing system of Yahoo!, because it has a new interface. Not as if i had any problems with the previous one, but this is really great. It’s so useful as a real mailing program, though it’s written in JavaScript and is compatible with (i think) all major browsers nowadays.

Most of you have probably seen websites that use the trendy Web2.0 technologies like AJAX and such. Well, i don’t think you could name any of those that’s not used in the new Yahoo! system. Do you like the dynamic interface of Gmail? Then you’ll love Yahoo!, not to mention it doesn’t need any invitations (at least it didn’t need any when i registered – so about 3 years ago), it’s totally open.

The scripting is really quick, though some pop-up boxes take a while to load, but i guess that’s when it uses Prototype-style client-server connection, and mine is a bit overwhelmed right now =).

It has everything that a full-power mailing program nowadays has, and in addition to the usual mailing services it also has implemented feed reader – though i wonder who’d use an online AJAX program for reading feeds… It’s a nice offer anyway.

If you ever want to be shocked by seeing a whole complex program coded in only JS and XHTML, then you should try this out…

10/10

Spam

I don’t know what’s the point in spamming my bot with robots from three or four different IP-s linking in non-existent sites. If they were adverts like those annoying pharmacy things that pop up everywhere, i could understand they aimed to attract more and more customers (or however it’s spelled…), but those links have addresses that are just random characters put after each other! I can’t get it.

I banned all those e-mail addresses (since they were mostly on a popular russian e-mail host, i didn’t ban the domain), IP-s (considered banning a whole range, but thought that would be a bit too radical) and the URL-s. Shannaro.

MSN or whatever

Wonder what? I’ve been registered on MSN for almost 5 years now. To be exact, I registered on november 30, 2001. Cool, isn’t it?

And now i’m the one who wants to rather use other chat services like Jabber or others. I never ever been disconnected from those networks in the middle of a conversation or such. At least, that’s my experience.

And MSN is breaking down at least monthly twice. That’s it.
