No effect

I realized that tho for a while the Mintia Dry Hard mzs/x senpai suggested worked as expected, by now i pretty much got used to caffeine. That means that if i have one of that candy (?) in hopes of waking my brain up, it has no effect, but when it finally wears out, i fall back down and the sleepiness gets even worse. So i decided to restrict myself to coffee, although coffee hasn’t been able to keep me awake for about a year now, maybe some hidden placebo effect will.

I’ll need it. Six exams in the coming eight days, one of which is a core subject and beside that three more will probably be crazy difficult if not impossible to score well. I’m looking forward to getting over with them.

Nem tudom, hogy valami nagyon művészi blokk (kikérem magamnak, nekem nyugtát szíveskedjék mondani) jött rám vagy mi, de egyszerűen már képtelen vagyok értelmes hosszabb írásokat produkálni a beadandóimhoz. Vagy lehet, hogy csak a témák olyan lehetetlenül ostobák, hogy esélyem sincs? Minden esetre az alternatív hajtású autókról tudtam írni kétezerötszáz karaktert, de hogy mit gondolok a munkáról, már ezer karakterig se tudtam eljutni. Aztán most látom, hogy az utolsó ilyen fogalmazós beadandó nagyjából háromezer karakter illene, hogy legyen, amit egyszerűen reménytelennek érzek. Egy teljesen értelmetlen és lényegi tartalom nélküli tantárgyról van szó, a beadandó meghatározása: (1) az egyetemre kerülés előtti önmagad értékelése és bemutatása valamint (2) a tantárgy előadásain és általában az egyetemen eddig “tanult” anyagra építve (3) a diplomázás utáni tervezett pályádat szem előtt tartva (4) az elkövetkező egyetemi éveid tanulmányi és kutatói tervét írd le háromezer karakterben. És akkor itt olyan cifrán káromkodok, hogy már a blogba se szeretném leírni, pedig azért ez már látott egyet s mást. A másik hasonlóan hasznos és értelmes tantárgy beadandójába már kellett hasonlót írni, bár ott “csak” ezer karakterben. Az biztos, hogy fel fogom használni azt is, de hogy sikerül-e háromezer karakterig húzni, már más kérdés. Pedig még ma meg akartam volna csinálni…

Olyan két-három havonta mindig rámtör, hogy de jó lenne csinálni egy netes újságot, ahol lehetne írni, és. Aztán mindig leesik, hogy kivel, miről, ki szervezné, milyen formában, és megint csak miről, meg aztán miben különbözne ez, ha egyáltalán, a blogolástól. Így mindig lezárom magamban, hogy úgyse működne, és elhatározom hogy minden potenciális témáról írok majd itt a blogon. Lemezbemutatók, együttesbemutatók, könyvbeszámolók, satöbbi. Mostanában ilyen stílusú dolgokat úgyis csak animékről meg sorozatokról írok. Igazság szerint hiányzik a Radiátor. Az egy egész jó buli volt, még volt is lelkesedésem csinálni, hiába hogy nagyjából senkit nem érdekelt. Még rémlik amikor az utolsó évben, amikor még csináltuk, az iskola hirtelen konkurenciának tekintett minket (mivel leszartuk az elméleti szabályokat és nem hagytuk hogy az iskolavezetés cenzúrázzon minket) és életre keltették a suliújságot, aminek a rövid karrierje csúcsán is a tanárokkal készült interjúk jelentették a Tartalmat, de azért minden osztálynak kötelező volt megvenni n+1 darabot belőle.

A lényeg hogy néha hiányzik valami kevésbé blog-szerű írás is.

One of the “great advantages” of linux is its supposed community support and that it’s developed by the users and anyone can take part and… Okay, stop there. You can take part in development if you are a crazy programmer and are able to find all the newsgroups and mailing lists and bug report places where some of the actual development is going on. Community support is probably there, just i don’t seem to be able to find it.

I don’t know if linux development is still separated from the web and takes place in other parts of the internet, but whatever the case, usual searches, however i try to refine my queries, don’t really bring the results i look for. And if finally i get bored with googling for hours just to find something that seems at least related to the problem i’m having, but yet provides no help, and i go to ubuntuforums.com and post my supposedly idiotic etc questions, no one gives a fuck to respond. Community support is a really nice concept, but if the whole community is only asking questions and no answers, it’s no point. Also, on that very forum website, apparently necroposting (posting in old topics) is not possible. So even if i found a workaround around a problem googling for which led me to that topic, i can’t post any helpful response there. How clever. On anime fan forums where they are boasting with pride about the number of topics and stuff, banning necroposting is acceptable even if i don’t agree with it. But seriously, on a support forum?

Also it’s funny that i’m every now and then facing problems that looking at forum posts were problems five years ago as well. Here you go, fantastic development of linux! Not able to fix reported bugs in five years? And while it’s really nice if the system natively recognizes the media control buttons of my laptop and i can control my mail led just by echoing 1 into /sys/class/leds/asus ::mail/brightness, not being able to use my wireless, my infrared and my webcam’s permanently flipped upside down, and i have no way to fix it, now that ruins the picture.

My scholarship arrived yesterday, so now i started planning. I want to build myself a desktop computer, that won’t get terribly old until i graduate, and will be able to run StarCraft 2 on max quality. Also, it would be nice if most of its parts (especially wireless, infrared and audio) would be fully usable with linux. I have a total budget of about 1000 usd for the purpose (with everything included). What i want is a powerful machine in a case as small as possible, and a over-20″ monitor. Of course as high-end as possible out of that money.

Tegnap este majdnem spontán leültünk sörözni. Aztán csak söröztünk meg söröztük, úgyhogy a nem-csúcskategóriás japán szeszek tipikus utóhatásaként ma nem volt (nincs) olyan fényes közérzetem. De aztán most nemrég megéheztem, és kétségbe esve tapasztaltam, hogy nem tudok mit kitalálni másnapmentő kajának. Az igazi a krumplipüré lett volna, de az egyszerűen nem megvalósítható. Amennyire szeretem a krumplit enni, annyira utálom elkészíteni.

Ponthatárok

Még emlékszem, amikor mi vártuk a ponthatárokat két éve, milyen volt ülni a kocsmában a sörök és rövidek meg a biliárdasztal mellett és várni az eredményeket. Sorban jöttek a telefonok az osztálytársaimnak és barátaimnak, hogy hova vették föl őket, ahogy megjelentek a ponthatárok a felvi.hu-n. Volt egy nagyon egyedi hangulata annak az eredményvárós estének, amilyen addig se, azóta se igen volt több. (Talán az érettségi eredmények voltak még ilyenek, de az közel sem volt ilyen csoportos buli, vagy csak nem emlékszek rá, ami szintén elfogadható magyarázat.) Eredményvárás pedig annál több volt, vizsgák, a japán ösztöndíj (azt se felejtem el, amikor egy szürke téli reggelen csörgött a telefonom, hogy szia mehetsz Japánba, köpni-nyelni nem bírtam nagyjából, a hírt is eldugtam ugyanúgy, ahogy anno a filozófia oktv eredményemet), még vizsgák, egyetemi felvételi (megint) satöbbi… Na mindegy, a lényeg, hogy sok szerencsét nektek mindenkiknek, akik most a 2010-es ponthatárok miatt kell izguljatok. Remélem mind bekerültök oda, ahova akartok.

This one was messy. We realised that something was amiss when both the ts raw and the subtitle script from that ended in the middle of the episode. Meaning, roughly half of the raw was missing. Nevertheless, i did my translation of that part, then it was just waiting, hoping there was someone else recording too so that there will be a raw, any raw available that we could use. Luckily, there was.

So now both torrent and download of the english fansub of Digimon Xros Wars episode 03 is available at OnlineDigimon. Check it out, it’s worth it. There’s a nice bunch of fighting, my favourite Dorulumon shows up again and MadLeomon makes his return as well. So do the other humans, although i bet Taiki and the others expected some other kind of greeting from the other Generals. Watch it already!

It’s my first exam today on economic risk, and this is one of the rare times when i could use a slate. We are free to use whatever resources we can on the exam, papers, notes, electronic dictionary, whatever. I was gathering such resources today mostly on Wikipedia and it’s a huge amount. Way too much to print, especially considering that i’d probably never use those papers again, but still i’d need some reference. That’s where a good slate would come in.

Although, roughly 30 open browser tabs could possibly cause problems there as well… Whatever, i don’t have a slate (and except for the current situation, i don’t have problems with that) so i’ll just make some notes. Might also be easier to systematize after writing it down my waaay.

Every ten minutes inspiration slaps me in the face with a big stinky fish so that i want to rush to the blog admin instantly to write an über-cool post, but then as soon as i open a new browser tab, all the inspiration disappears as if it was never even there to begin with. Whatever.

We had a bit of a problem with subbing the third Digimon Xros Wars. Not really past tense, but it seems we’ll manage to get a low quality english sub out in reasonable time. The problem was that the ElitistFags raw that’s kind of the only available TS raw of the episode, was corrupted and roughly half of it is missing. So we had to work off a low quality stream found on some anime website.

Also, using my extreme high level bookkeeping skills learnt at master Inayama in the Real Life rpg, and some basic Excel (sorry, OO Calc) techniques, i managed to calculate that i don’t need a job this summer after all, i can enjoy my freedom completely.

Tomorrow’s the risk exam, but… well, i might be facing optimism bias, but we can use whatever we want from books to dictionaries and i can write in english as well, so i can’t really help feeling safe. In english i could write the required length even if i had no idea about the topic.
