Earlier this month I went back to Hikone for the alumni meetup of my university club, and there in a convenience store I found this lineup of (probably very) local craft beer. There was an ale, a stout, a weizen and a pilsner. This pilsner.

Nagahama Roman Oumi Pilsner

It’s gold with basically no head, just a ring around the edge. Surprisingly enough that ring still laced the glass somewhat.

It’s got that good grainy pilsner smell, though there is a noticeable fruity sweetness too.

The body’s light-medium with medium carbonation. The taste is about grain and yeast. There’s a fruity hop bitterness, somewhat sweet that feels a bit awkward to be honest, but the sweet note suppresses the alcohol taste really well.

It’s a refreshing, nice pilsner. That weird bitter-sweet hint makes it easy to remember.
