Chaos

Again, i’m taking a dive into chaos theory, for the sake of my economy report. As easy to guess, i’m trying to find an interesting part of economic science where chaos plays a nice part and is not such a hell to describe without going into page-long formulae and alike. So far the most interesting part came up in a presentation by Benoit Mandelbrot, actually one of the main points of it, the usage of price graphs as sounds. Or maybe something else if i can find. But because of that, i mean the Brownian noise mention in there, i was listening to “brown noise” since then.

And while i was typing this post, i decided to have a run at the library and print another paper about chaos theory—i only hope it’ll be useful for the economy part as well. And i asked for suggestions for a good topic from a few friends studying economy for longer, and i repeat that here: if you have a good idea, don’t hesitate.

The other event of the day was that i tried a method for fixing that the hair not in the dreads grows longer and longer, one i’ve seen when i got it fixed in december. It works indeed, but if overdone it hurts like hell, so i’ve got a few sensitive spots on my head right now…

Stripes

Again, this week’s episode of the Series, this time it’s pink and black and toe and as close to perfection as could be, meaning i only know three better from my twenty years of experience. Stripes by ~possession really hits that button with “turn on” written on it.

FCUK

Complementing the earlier rant, here goes a nice photo by *angelreich, of Hong Kong “greeting” people. Certain comments make it even funnier.

Heavy rant

I’m pissed off. Very pissed off. It seems that our asshole dear history teacher has that strange disorder that i already observed multiple times in japanese people: even if you speak to them in japanese, slow and clear japanese just to be sure, they simply won’t understand. Probably they think that it won’t make any sense anyway, or that i stupid foreigner must want to mean something else that i can’t put in words. Last time he announced that we have to write about Fukuzawa Yukichi, who played a huge role in the changing age (menopause?) of the Meiji restoration. But it was unclear (to me) whether we have to write about that beforehand or only in the exam, i asked and “he” told me it was just in the exam. (I always ask at least twice again after the answer, just to make sure.) Now he told us we have to write at least 1000-2000 characters beforehand and the main points of that in the exam. I’m happy i can’t kill with my eyes or i’d be a murderer by now.

Chronflow

Chronflow is probably the best cover flow plugin for foobar2000. The only problem is that it throws “Can’t set pixel format” and “Img texture leak error 2” on certain video cards, mine included. I used foo_bubble_coverflow because of that for quite a while, but then i decided to give Chronflow another try, and to my greatest surprise it worked without problem. At least until i had to restart foobar. (For those who have the “Previous submission still in progress” problem with the foo_audioscrobbler plugin, stopping playback and restarting foobar solves the problem every time, the cache then can be submitted manually (as i usually do), but i guess it’ll be submitted anyway with the next track.) But now that i knew it can work, i didn’t give up. And i figured out the solution. It’s not a real solution, just a quick workaround, annoying but works, for me at least.

Can’t

Can’t get myself to work. After i got back from church i started practicing guitar, learning 3月9日, and after an hour or so my left index finger was stiff and painful of the barre.

And i couldn’t study either after that, nothing was or is going how it should, i can’t do a proper design for my blog, i’m moody like a stupid chick with period, i can’t sit straight on my chair, so i’ll have to go to gym to work out, which will also do good on my mood, if still persisting tomorrow, or just general feel, if not. I have a lot of work to do, two reports, a freakish stupid history exam and a presentation which i’ll at least enjoy, and…

And i cunt can’t even do a proper blogpost. 最低。

Now work

I don’t feel like working on my presentation, which is virtually done, or on my reports, which are most definitely not, instead launched SciTE and started working on the blog code—again. If someone would not happen to be following this blog long enough, this is something like a recurring joke: i’ve been “rewriting” the blog for roughly three years now, if not more, ever since i “completed” the current version. You can’t really see into it, i guess and i hope, but i’m actually quite surprised that this crappy code works at all. For the time being, i’m putting up code snapshots for you to see, test and comment. Of course it’s nowhere near functioning as of now, but it’s in progress.

Calling my old code “crappy” (and not only crappy, but also incomplete, just for your information nothing works in the admin area except for managing posts—everything else is phpMyAdmin) reminds me of what Sartre said about humans: we don’t let ourselves be defined, because as soon as that happens, the definition is already invalid. We move on. Just as when someone points out an until then unknown habit, we change. And we can break rules. Surpass ourselves.

Skins season 4

Just now beside dinner i watched the first episode of the fourth season of Skins. It was pretty harsh on me, considering that since the third season ended i only watched a few anime episodes, four seasons (and so far all of the fifth) of How i met your mother and two (third in progress) of The Big Bang Theory, which are so to say more centered around entertainment and laughing, i got unused to the brute shocks of Skins. It’s only first episode as of now, but that 45 minutes just hit the spot, same as the third season did. Actually, since as i said i got unused to it, i was waiting for someone to shout “buzzinga” and everything turns out fine and shiny. Not here… I’m really looking forward to watching the whole series.

But in the meanwhile i’ll start Firefly and pick up Samurai Champloo again, because i caught up to all my series now (to be exact, in two day i will, TBBT being the one with episodes still left), and i really got used to watching something while having lunch or dinner. This is how it goes.

On Wittgenstein’s private language argument and solipsism

Yesterday while researching solipsism for my report for japanese class, i came across Wittgenstein‘s private language argument, which states, as in my understanding, that language is a tool for communicating mental images, ideas and thoughts to other minds, thus if the solipsist has a language, that implies the existence of other minds that he could communicate with.

I’m not a solipsist, though i have to say that i long considered the possibility, but it’s an endpoint of ontology and epistemology at least, of the branches of philosophy, and as such, it’s not fun. Of course this is not an argument about the philosophical validity or possibility of solipsism, what i want to point out that philosophy is a “love of wisdom”, and as for me, i enjoy developing or even just understanding a system that could explain how and why the world is, how we sense and so on. Solipsism simply kills that fun.
