The day of extremities

Today i wake up at the first alarm of my phone, then went back to bed as usual until the last one… And i found it strange that it was the next. Nevermind, i had breakfast, and headed for school. Of course i was late, but only by roughly ten minutes—or so i thought. As i arrived, in a few minutes the teacher ended the class, and i was totally dumbfounded. For a few seconds, then i looked at my watch and i realised that i wasn’t late by ten minutes but by an hour. Turns out i forgot to reset my alarm from the 9 am weekend setting…

But at least i slept well in class.

Then i came home and came another raging thirty minutes. The rice cooker didn’t turn itself off (lately this happens more often than convenient) so the bottom of the rice was burned, while the top wasn’t even cooked properly. In the meanwhile i turned the power on the stove too high so the topping got burnt too. Not to mention when i picked the rice cooker off the fridge to get the rice out, it slipped out of my hand covering half of my kitchen floor with rice.

Then english classes that i spent sleeping and having fun with puddi on /b/.

I went to buy coffee, then headed for the karaoke at the station, where i spent half an hour practicing the Slipknot songs (except Three Nil that they didn’t have). Even though the performance’s not going to happen…

Infringed

Today when i got back from school an email was waiting for me from Youtube, stating that the little more then one minute long hungarian subbed scene from Star Driver i uploaded the other day is an infringement to Sony Music’s copyrights. I seriously wonder in what way.

Right, i’m no lawyer here, so i have no problems accepting that my upload of that video was a copyright infringement. Nevertheless i find it crazy that in one day all Star Driver fan videos were wiped from Youtube. First of all, it’s pointless. Even if they remove it from there, there are countless other sites that the great Sony won’t think of to check for their so protected content.

Do these people realise at all what insane potential the internet has for their media? Do they seriously think that without these “copyright infringing materials” anyone would ever hear about their anime outside Japan? Oh come on. The people who want to watch such videos on Youtube are the ones who will watch the series once it’s on tv and buy dvds and other merchandise, watch the related movies-ovas-whatever and spend the big money.

Cenzúrázzuk a netet!

Elvileg. Bár a Little Brother óta a “nyugati példát” se feltétlen érzem halálbiztosnak…

Breathless

When it came to subbing the latest Xros Wars episode, i was surprised no one was in the irc channel when i got there the usual hour or so after the episode aired to ask for the raw video and subtitles to translate… No one said a word while i was there for hours… Then i went to sleep. Next morning i got a notice from iMon that the WPP joint is over and we’re working by ourselves from now on. I’ve also seen the since deleted posts the WPP people left at the forums… As much as i knew them (not at all, it seems) i didn’t think they’d write such stuff without being seriously pissed off. That and knowing iMon’s habit to get a bit too 4chan-ish in arguments made me think he overreacted something and kicked them. Sorry about that, i really am.

A helyesírásról, megint

Holy crap

In order to provide the Battle.net Service, Blizzard must be entitled to access, monitor and/or review text chat, including private, or “whisper” chat, in the event of complaints from other users or violations of the law. By clicking the check box below, you agree that Blizzard (or one of Blizzard’s affiliates) has the right to monitor and review personal messages you send or receive on the Battle.net Service, or through any game that is playable through the Battle.net Service, to investigate potential violations of the law, the Battle.net Terms of Use, or the Terms of Use agreement specific to any game playable on the Battle.net Service. Blizzard will not use the information for any reason other than pursuing such violations.

Battle.net account registration, chat agreement

I consent to Blizzard monitoring and/or reviewing my personal messages.

I guess i should just move to China. Not much of a difference anyway, living under a communist regime and playing a game on Battle.net. This is so… scary. Especially after reading Little Brother (Cory Doctorow’s)…

StarCraft 2 + Blizzard rant

Blizzard pissed me off. Badly. It’s one thing that battle.net redirects me to the korean website, even though my account is south-east asian–apparently all japanese are considered to be able to speak korean too. But whatever, i got used to typing sea.battle.net instead of just battle.net.

Actually it was all fine when i got the game (StarCraft 2 we’re talking about here). I completed the campaign, wrote a blogpost about it and since then played against harder and harder AI’s. Not against humans for the sole reason that the people i would want to play with are in another region. And StarCraft 2 is geo-locked, just like World of Warcraft. Meaning you can’t play with people from other regions, and even if you got access to another region, your achievements and scores will be stored only for the region you got them in. Even better is that although SEA apparently got merged into the north american region, technically the two are still separate, just now i can have a NA character too. Great.

Community software my ass.

One of the “great advantages” of linux is its supposed community support and that it’s developed by the users and anyone can take part and… Okay, stop there. You can take part in development if you are a crazy programmer and are able to find all the newsgroups and mailing lists and bug report places where some of the actual development is going on. Community support is probably there, just i don’t seem to be able to find it.

I don’t know if linux development is still separated from the web and takes place in other parts of the internet, but whatever the case, usual searches, however i try to refine my queries, don’t really bring the results i look for. And if finally i get bored with googling for hours just to find something that seems at least related to the problem i’m having, but yet provides no help, and i go to ubuntuforums.com and post my supposedly idiotic etc questions, no one gives a fuck to respond. Community support is a really nice concept, but if the whole community is only asking questions and no answers, it’s no point. Also, on that very forum website, apparently necroposting (posting in old topics) is not possible. So even if i found a workaround around a problem googling for which led me to that topic, i can’t post any helpful response there. How clever. On anime fan forums where they are boasting with pride about the number of topics and stuff, banning necroposting is acceptable even if i don’t agree with it. But seriously, on a support forum?

Also it’s funny that i’m every now and then facing problems that looking at forum posts were problems five years ago as well. Here you go, fantastic development of linux! Not able to fix reported bugs in five years? And while it’s really nice if the system natively recognizes the media control buttons of my laptop and i can control my mail led just by echoing 1 into /sys/class/leds/asus ::mail/brightness, not being able to use my wireless, my infrared and my webcam’s permanently flipped upside down, and i have no way to fix it, now that ruins the picture.
