Napló

Nincs közöm a hajdan csigáskettesként ismert tévécsatornához, csak most megint napló stílusú bejegyzés következik.

Recommendations

Yesterday i listened to a collaboration album featuring many bands, and i wanted to see if they were added to my last.fm library (they were). On the home page though, i saw some changes, some i am very happy about. Beside the event and artist recommendations, now there’s a new part showing new releases, by default from my most listened artists. I’m really grateful for this feature, because i always had trouble following who has a new album when. As can be seen, my library is quite diverse with loads of artists, so following and remembering each of them is kind of impossible. For example, wasn’t it for this new feature, i wouldn’t have realised that Pain of Salvation, Gamma Ray and Rage have new albums, even though i really love their music. And of course there is a page where there are the new releases from artists recommended “based on my musical taste”. Good choice to get to know new artists. The only problem is that artists or labels need to fill out those fields, apparently, and that’s no good. Many artists are not present on last.fm (meaning they don’t manage their profiles), also many albums are messed up. For example, in my case, what is Spock’s Beard‘s Octane doing there? That album was five years ago! (It’s okay when it’s shown that it’s a re-release or something, but just like that…)

Worth sharing, part two

Worth sharing was intended with content that got its place only in this post. I didn’t think i’ll end up writing that much stuff without any particular topic. I wanted to show off a few stuff i stumbled upon in the past few days… But indeed, that feels so empty. Then this post will be empty.

First a drawing of Mickey Mouse and Goofy going punk—too bad tumblr images can’t be easily traced back to the tumblog that posted them, else i’d link there. By the way, i like this version of the characters more, feels closer to me—wonder why. Punk was there at the start of my real musical life, the time i was reborn from the world of Vengaboys and radio pop into what slowly would become what i am now. Actually at first i listened to more punk than metal. It was so long ago, my last.fm couldn’t record it. How could it, last.fm was barely founded then! Looking back, that time i was often playing some war game on my sis’ Win 3.1 computer, i forgot its name… But at least found an online Win 3.1 imitation, it’s funny that a website could act as if… Anyway, since then the hammer-wielding long-haired metal bands won the fight, and then let “equality” rule my music tastes—”equality”, since they would stay the dominant element anyway. The most recent “diplomat” in there is the russian band Слот, the Слот I album of whom i nicked off Olga’s pendrive when i copied the last TBBT (soft kitty…—heh, spoiled) for her. Although i can only read and not understand, that worked (works) well with Ленинград, and works here as well. I understood Хаос (after all, i’m doing a report about it, i mean chaos, just in theeconomy), and it turned out to be a great song

(Not so empty as expected.)

Road

Chronflow

Chronflow is probably the best cover flow plugin for foobar2000. The only problem is that it throws “Can’t set pixel format” and “Img texture leak error 2” on certain video cards, mine included. I used foo_bubble_coverflow because of that for quite a while, but then i decided to give Chronflow another try, and to my greatest surprise it worked without problem. At least until i had to restart foobar. (For those who have the “Previous submission still in progress” problem with the foo_audioscrobbler plugin, stopping playback and restarting foobar solves the problem every time, the cache then can be submitted manually (as i usually do), but i guess it’ll be submitted anyway with the next track.) But now that i knew it can work, i didn’t give up. And i figured out the solution. It’s not a real solution, just a quick workaround, annoying but works, for me at least.

The first lines

The first few verses of In FlamesSober and irrelevant are simply too relevant.

used to be original,
but now i tremble in fear
i am like everyone else

alabary spell

is this how it feels
to reach black bottom
want to know how it feels to be forgotten

i become the distance,
i am the sober and irrelevant,
i don’t feel but in this,
what is there to believe?

In Flames – Sober and irrelevant

Pull the trigger: In Flames we trust

Yesterday i made the last class finish a bit earlier, but still i could only hear two or three songs from Each of the days, a japanese band (Tokyo Zepp is quite far from the university). It wasn’t that outstanding, and it was funny that the guitarist used the guitar i wanted to buy (very cheap) (at least it looked the same). They had two drummers, and one of them was a girl, quite unusual. Actully, i didn’t even know there were this many bands, this made the event kind of a festival, i thought it’ll only be CKY, Atreyu and In Flames. Not quite…

Then came the first break, and i met a couple of american navy people, they were long into drinking, but still really nice people. From then on i appear on a couple of photos i guess, as a “random hungarian guy”. I also got to know a japanese girl, whom i helped out when she couldn’t understand what the drunk americans were saying anymore.

Endless Hallway played really nice catchy music, sometimes with quite amazing riffs, and they all look the favourite of teenage girls way. They played for roughly half an hour, just like Each of the days before, it was just how it had to be before the bands coming after. I guess this was the time when beers started to fly.

That break i met new people again, more and more from the navy (of various countries) and japanese as well, two girls and two guys, talking away the whole break. And realised that Asahi draft is more water than beer.

And so it continues

It doesn’t stop, today’s the first in the chain of many when i have time to sit down (i won’t specify where) to write this blogpost. Yesterday i couldn’t get myself to do so after running around for hours, most importantly to the post, so finally i applied for a visa card, which is supposed to arrive in a month from now. I also paid my external hard drive, so that’s to come in a week as well. Can’t wait.

Today i really will go to sleep early. I never do, and i’m getting to feel that, yesterday at the table tennis training i got much more tired than i should have, so i decided to wash my hair around eight and just dry and do nothing for the evening—maybe only plan and read on about my topics. And i surely want to finish that paper with the interesting view on the universe as information and the (for me) surprising fact that gravity is an entropic force. It’s really fascinating.

On monday i went to a great concert, Sonata Arctica in O-East. It was a bit short though, hardly ninety minutes, but they played most of my favourite songs (not all, of course, for example they didn’t play Shy). I couldn’t get a setlist, but lucky someone uploaded it. The guys on stage, i mean the band, especially Tony, are just crazy. I also ran into a friend from the dorm there, a bit of a surprise. On the way there, of course i had a coffee and on the way back i passed off the 100 yen second one to a homie, just as last time in Shinjuku.

What to sing?

It’s not an easy question for me when we’re going to karaoke. There are very few people who listen to or just at least appreciate the music i listen to mostly, the usual favourite being the “recently” emerged country, indie or “myspace” pop, call it however you want. And there i go, with unlimited amounts of rock, metal, punk, alternative and all the progressive versions of these, with some electronic, a few indie songs and even those are either of a totally unknown past Chicago indie band or from the selection i got from my exchange partner there. There are a few “must do” songs, the two sure being Hot dog by Limp Bizkit and Nellie the elephant by the Toy Dolls. And there i am, with two whole songs for a whole night. Usually i start going all over my “mixed” playlist, which has songs that i love though the music’s not my favourite kind, simply because these songs tend to be more popular.

And then, a few times ago i realised one more thing. I just have to go back six years, and i can find songs that people know, or at least can sing along: six years ago was the season of blink-182, Sum 41, the Offspring or Green Day, just to mention a few. I still sometimes listen to blink, and occasionally look up a few songs of Offspring on Youtube, but it’s no more in my usual (although in the case of Offspring i’ll try to make it again so). But these are easy to sing, popular, catchy, and i don’t care if someone joins and messes it all up (i do mind that in case of my favourites, like Fear of the dark, which still i try to put on every time), and noone will hate me for singing “songs that no one knows or cares about” (even if that’s unproved by millions of plays on last.fm). Interesting to note, that although the style is quite similar, Rancid is already “underground”, no one sang along when i had Red Hot Moon last time, though that’s pretty catchy too…

Karaoke made easier.
