Going to sleep

Is difficult to schedule well. Again it’s three in the morning, and i’m pretty sure i won’t be sleeping before four. Although, in exchange, i’ll just let myself snore on until ten or eleven. Then guitar, guitar and guitar, concentrating as much as i can. Now in the evening i tried to play Iron Maiden’s masterpiece Fear of the Dark and it turned out much better than i thought it would. Also, tomorrow is the High and Mighty Color gig in Shibuya, and maybe i won’t be going alone. Then sunday is more or less the same, church in the morning, guitar all day, then the AC/DC in the evening. Monday again, wake up, guitar, then go to the practice place and more guitar.

Pretty simple, isn’t it? Anyway, today we played a bit of dota, and i got badly owned. To be exact, due to unforeseen circumstances, our team deemed unable to achieve victory. But at least i managed to get a nice build for my phantom lancer: Manta, Aghanim’s, Heart, and i was heading to get the Eaglehorn for my Butterfly when i had to rush home just to be late catching an enemy hero destroy our ancient. My demon witch was good as well, but the bounty hunter could counter me way too efficiently.

In the meanwhile, trying to consume as little coffee and yet stay as active as possible. And blog enough. (Also, just cut a new avatar, does it count as spoiler? I’m not saying where it’s from, because then it would be.)

Countries

According to my stats, some of the top ten are as follows.

Hungary: i really wonder who these people are. I’m not related to Hungary in any way, except that it’s the country i’m citizen of, i was born and raised there, studied there and way too many people i love are there. I hope it won’t rot apart before i get home (not as if i hoped i could help much…)

UK: i guess this is due to the activity of my sister there, and also a lot of enthusiastic readers, hopefully. I love Britain, if i get rich once i really want to get a big old house somewhere in Dartmoor. Because it’s teh feel.

US: again, relatives and enthusiasts there. I liked it when i was there, but i don’t feel like living there for longer. Maybe for studying and oft visits.

Japan: i’m here, i have friends here, who apparently follow my posts not only on Facebook but here on the blog too (if not, then now’s the chance), and also (based on their occasional comments) my senpai also 読んでくださってます (are so kind to read).

Romania: after all, they’re Hugary’s neighbours, and according to my experience, they are very nice people. At least, the three who are here with the scholarship. Screw politics. Though, to be honest, i’ve never been there yet.

Brazil: i can’t help thinking of Brazil as “down there”, but i hope you can forgive my northern hemisphere narrow-mindedness. Here in the neighbourhood of the sixth floor is the only brazilian of our scholarship, he really amazes me time to time. If many of you are like him i wish you all the greatest economic (and all possible other) development.

Just 15 minutes

I’m going off again, or stopping, or going on withdrawal (tamper-off?) or however you say it, the point is i’ll be restricting my coffee consumption a lot in the coming days. It’s no use anymore, meaning my body got used to larger amounts as well. (Also apparent from the constant coffee smell around me that even i realise.) And still, i need fifteen minutes of rest in the evening, no matter.

Fifteen minutes is roughly the three songs that 42 to the infinite power (42の無限乗) will perform when time’s due. Although my part is only two, i’m doing all i can this coming seven days so that it’ll be perfect. After all, 42 is the meaning of life, the universe and everything, so its infinite power is, well… to quote dota: GODLIKE. Not easy, but especially if i finally buy a guitar, i’ll be able to practice a lot, not to mention without disturbing the people living around me (electric, headphones, and so on, get the connection). Since that’s most probably tomorrow, i have high hopes. True, this weekend’s evenings will be off, due to concerts (not mine, “just” attending), but i’ll be working that harder in daytime.

Fifteen minutes is roughly how much it takes for me to complete a round in the gym. The machines are packed in the center of the gym, so it’s possible to go on in a circle, from one to another. Three rounds are the most i ever tried, nowadays even two can kill me pretty much. I’ll see in half an hour how much i can do today.

Bad news

Just as the title of ~TeenagePoliticsgreat photo says, it’s brining bad news: the end of the Series. A lovely end for sure. Lots of pink and stripes and socks, definitely worthy of being the ending piece of the Series. Of course this doesn’t mean i won’t be featuring any more photos from dA–i’ve been before, and i will be.

Most popular content

It’s been interesting to watch what brings the most visitors to the blog. Some stuff show up even though i’m around page fifteen in the search results, some don’t, although i’m first. According to Analytics, my top content:

  • the root: the opening page of the blog, always with the newest posts and stuff. This page i guess gets the most hits from referrals, not from search.
  • about hungarian language exams: apparently lots of people are interested in taking hungarian language exams of various levels, and my post compiled after roughly ten minutes of googling seems to rate better in search engines than official exam center websites
  • anime movies: the third, fourth and sixth places of the list are taken by posts about anime movies. In order: Naruto Shippuuden Bonds (Kizuna), the first Naruto Shippuuden movie and the first Rebuild of Evangelion movie (You are not alone). Glad you like those posts.
  • Chronflow: the missing fifth is my post about Chronial’s cool coverflow plugin for foobar2000 and how to solve a few annoying problems related to it (though i can’t do anything about its memory use).
  • the 2009 january archive: i seriously have no idea why this gets so many hits. I looked at the search stats, but no details on that. It’s some of the pics used there, as most of the hits originate from Google image search sites.
  • about language abusers: my rant about people who simply can’t type, are dumb like shit hell and don’t even realise. I really have an urge to laugh when people don’t understand the purpose of that post.
  • on japanese music: my little compilation of a few japanese bands i knew and liked back then. I still mostly only listen to those bands when it comes to japanese music, with a few newcomers (like Ellegarden) and changes in balance (such as High and Mighty Color rating much higher).
  • Glamour Pinball tips: my guide to the Nokia game Glamour Pinball. I can’t use that phone here in Japan, so i’m totally off the game now. (No games on jap phones.) Glad you find my tips useful.

The Evasive N

I remember reading a blogpost by someone who was in the american exchange (sorry i don’t recall whose blog it was), that ended with an apology for typos blamed on the “evasive n key”. I’m having the same feeling. Even when i got this laptop, it had problems with the space bar (if you don’t hit it in the center or strong, it won’t work), and since then many other keys had sensitivity problems, but i just got used to hitting a bit harder than before. At least my hands get stronger, which is useful for guitar (though the powerball still outperforms any typing).

Today was Din’s birthday, we went Musashisakai to celebrate. It was fun. Got myself a new pack of coffee as well, i’ll give it a try tomorrow. As for the guitar, which i want to buy soon, i’m hesitating between two Epiphones: a Les Paul studio and a G400 (i also considered a G310 Emily, because it looks cool). (All links in japanese.) I already got loads of good advice, but i’d still appreciate more. Total noob when it comes to electric guitars, you see…

Else, i’ve been playing my borrowed classical all day, or listening to Skatalites on Grooveshark (they’re coming to Japan!) or… well, that’s kind of all. Oh, i made my favourite dish, a beef stew (pörkölt). Turned out well.

Necromancy

Could anyone enlighten me, why is “reviving” old topics forbidden on so many forums? I can’t see any problem with contributing to topics, especially where it’s requested, even if the last post was half a year ago. Is that some kind of stupid attempt to increase the number of topics or what?

I never cared about those kind of rules and if some hyper moderator hadn’t locked the topic earlier, i posted even after years of silence. Call me a necromancer, it’s one of my favourite undead units in Warcraft. Of course if i was aware of that rule, which i rarely am, since even if i go to a forum, which hardly happened in the past couple of years, and even then i usually register for the sake of making a few contribution to good topics, and then even less do i care about reviving or whatever.

It must be of some kind of misconception, that there is such a thing as “dead topic”. A topic can’t be dead. Just by considering what that word means, it’s clear that opening a new thread for the same discussion, in other words the same topic, is simply pointless. Of course it’s another thing if the old topic was spammed or flamed to pieces, or it’s simply useless. That’s the mods’ job to lock or clean up. Not mine to care about.

Of course this post was inspired by a recent experience, when i dared to try to contribute to a topic about DotA hero responses. (The “hero attack” response of Sven, the Rouge Knight is “ash nazg gimbatul”, which is from the inscription of the One Ring of Sauron, meaning “one ring to find them”.)

Hey, sailor

I laughed out loud when i first heard Slithice, the naga siren respond in DotA. Just like that: “Hey, sailor” “don’t be afraid” “my song is yours”, after each other. It turned out i can handle her, the troll warlord and the demon witch quite well, actually getting over ten kills with the troll warlord every time. Meaning my stats were going well. I also was informed of something i didn’t realise yet, that is, computer controlled heroes by default gain loads more experience and gold. That’s why i had so much trouble with them…

Furthermore, i got a bad IP or something, so the router doesn’t like me this weekend, meaning i have hardly any time when the net’s working flawlessly. Or at all. Quite troublesome, since many of the stuff i’d do instead of DotA are dependent on a working connection, thus the huge temptation to just play on arises. But i don’t want to spend all my time in front of the screen, so i plan various outings, but all are stuck at the level of “away from the dorm”. I would appreciate some suggestions.

Vanishment of Suzumiya Haruhi

Is what i’m not going to write about right now. But i too, disappeared the whole weekend. Thursday we had a party, after which i woke up way too late, had a meeting about a later possible job (and fame, heh) and went to our farewell party. Japanese apparently like to say goodbye a month or more before people actually leave, which i don’t really see the meaning of, but it probably again a cultural difference. When we decided to leave the party, just in time to escape the cleaning.

Then came the interesting part, in the form of a DotA lan party, for most of the time in the 3 mongolians and Robert vs 3 vietnamese and me form. I’m painfully noob, but at least now know which way to go, and since then already doing a nice progress. “Nice progress.” Just like that, modestly. Then yesterday as well, with Robert on wireless, just two of us against AIs for getting used to heroes and items. Worked quite fine.

And there goes a weekend without any sleep in the night, minimal in the day, and still i’m fine. Seriously, this sounds like that Taft advert…

Wireless mesh

I wanted to set up a wireless mesh network here in the dorm so that we wouldn’t have to gather in a room to play lan games. Setting up a wireless network without a router is a pain in itself with Windows, because apparently, and correct me if i’m wrong, you have to enable internet connection sharing (ics) to get an ad-hoc wireless network to work. The reason, i figure, is that there needs to be a host to organize the network. The problem with that is, that if that host computer is not there, the network falls apart. And in a situation when we can’t know who will join the game, that is not acceptable. Also, in the case of Warcraft 3, according to my experience, only the host computer can create game, though i have no idea about the reason for that.

Thus i set out to look for a method to set up a mesh network, but i had to realise it’s hopeless. Finding unstable and buggy mesh organizer software was hard enough in itself, and after that i’d still have to get everyone to install and configure it, a program that might or might not work at all. So, the choices remaining gathering and/or setting up an “ad-hoc” network.

Just in case someone interested, there is a Microsoft wireless mesh project, although it doesn’t work for me throwing errors i can’t do anything about, and also olsr, which seems pretty nice, but i’m still testing, so can’t say anything about it.

Let me know if i’m wrong in any points above.
